Maruti Suzuki revealed the Ignis concept at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The automaker calls it ‘urban compact vehicle’, and it will be pitched primarily against the Mahindra KUV100. It will go on sale on January 13, 2017, and will be launched in an EDM concert, while official e-bookings will start from early Jan. It will be retailed from the Nexa dealerships and we expect Maruti to price it in the vicinity of Rs 5 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is powered by the 1.2-litre K-series petrol motor (84.3PS/ 115Nm) along with the 1.3-litre DDiS190 diesel engine (75PS/ 190Nm) in the country. Speaking of the transmission options, the Ignis comes with an option of a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated-manual transmission (AMT) with both the engine options. In terms of safety, it comes with dual front airbags along with ABS and EBD as standard. Moreover, Maruti highlighted that the Ignis adheres to the upcoming pedestrian safety, side, rear and offset crash-test regulations in the country.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Exterior Design and Styling
The Indian-spec Maruti Suzuki Ignis will carry the same exterior design and styling as the model offered internationally. This means that the crossover will feature a tall and muscular stance. The crossover has a box-line design without many curves or lines, but this works to its advantage and gives it a unique identity. The outside of the car features premium design elements like chrome accessories, projector headlights and LED daytime running lights, along with blacked out A, B and C pillars for a floating roof look. On the sides are highly flared wheel arches for a muscular shoulder. The top-end variant will get alloy wheels, while other higher variants will get wheel covers.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Drive-Train
The international versions of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis get several engine options, including a hybrid power-train. In India, however, Maruti Suzuki will offer the Ignis with its tried and tested 1.2-litre K-Series petrol unit and the 1.3-lite DDiS diesel engine, which are also used in models like the Swift and Baleno. The petrol engine generates 84 bhp of power and 115 Nm of torque, and the diesel one makes 73.9 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque. The diesel engine may come with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) mild hybrid system to boost mileage. Both engines will get a five-speed manual gearbox or an AMT automatic transmission option.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Safety Specifications
The Suzuki Ignis crossover recently underwent crash safety tests by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), and came out with shining colours. The standard model, with ABS and four airbags, received a rating of 3 stars out of 5. The tested model also got ISOFIX child safety seat mounting points, a seat belt load limiter, front passenger airbag cut-off and a seat belt pre-tensioner. Another variant of the Ignis with an optional safety pack received a perfect 5-star rating. This model got a pedestrian safety system, lane assist, radar-assisted highway braking and emergency braking in city speeds. It is not clear how many of these features will translate to the Maruti Suzuki Ignis in India, but the tests show a lot of promise for the crossover from a safety perspective.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Positioning and Pricing
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be taking over from the older Maruti Ritz, which has been a nonperformer for the Indian automaker for quite a while now. Despite facelifts, the Ritz has been unable to cope up with competitors like the Hyundai i10 or even the in-house Maruti Suzuki Swift. Meanwhile, the automaker has been shifting its focus towards the increasingly active and more profitable Indian market for compact crossovers.
The Ignis is not a true replacement for the Maruti Suzuki Ritz. In fact, it is a completely new model that will serve the automaker’s Nexa dealerships. Set to be available only from Nexa showrooms, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be positioned as an entry-level model, down-cutting the Baleno to a significant extent. It is the first of three new models that Maruti Suzuki will launch at its Nexa chain in the first few months of 2017. After the Ignis, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and a petrol version of the Vitara Brezza will be introduced. Given its positioning, the Ignis will likely be priced between INR 5 lakh to INR 8 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Rich in Features
Although an entry-level model, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will still be from the premium Nexa family, which means that it will feature lots of upscale features. A touch-screen infotainment system will be on offer with Apple CarPlay support as well as connectivity through Bluetooth, USB and AUX. The crossover may also come with two-tone leather upholstery, reverse parking sensors and camera, automatic climate control and push button start and stop. For now, Maruti Suzuki has kept mum about the features to come, and we’ll have to wait until the launch to get a clearer picture.

So those are five of the most important things about the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The crossover will compete with other models like the Mahindra KUV1OO and Hyundai i20 Active. The final pricing, along with all other details of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, will come to light on 13 January 2017.

1. Maruti Suzuki Ignis micro-SUV’s to get AMT in 1.2L petrol and 1.3L diesel besides range of customization

Derived from the i-M4 concept, the production version of Maruti Suzuki Ignis was unveiled first at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. It was originally showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show before getting launched at the Japanese market. It will be a compact entry-level crossover from Maruti Suzuki and retailed through NEXA dealerships which offers premium experience to buyers. Maruti has launched trailer of the ‘IGNIS ELECTRONATION! None-of-a-kind Car Launch Concert’ where Swedish DJ, Axwell, will perform live at the unique launch gig with thousands turning up on January 13. The Ignis will be the first vehicle from Maruti Suzuki to get e-booking (begins in January) and there are loads of customization available at exterior and interior. It gets standard dual airbags and ABS, 15-inch alloy wheels, Nexa safety shield, pre-tensioners, force limiter and isofix along with front and rear impact shield. Entering the market on Jan 13th, it will be sold through Nexa and comes with stylish LED projector headlamps (first for Maruti), carbon-fibre detailing, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment with mirror link, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Automatic transmission options will be available in both petrol and diesel engines while Allgrip 4WD system could be introduced later.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis’ production has begun from November 23rd onwards for the model year 2017. It might feature an all-wheel-drive system in the future as well but at the launch it will have a conventional FWD layout. Aiming to attract young generation customers at affordable price range, the Ignis could begin a new trend for more ultra-compact SUVs to come in the near future from other volume-selling manufacturers as well. Here is everything you need to know about the Maruti Suzuki Ignis micro-SUV:

2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis India Launch:
Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact crossover will be launched on 13th January as the expected launch during the final quarter of 2016 had supposedly been delayed due to ease the production constraints of the successfully running Vitara Brezza SUV and Baleno premium hatchback. It will be retailed through NEXA chain of dealerships.

3. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Engine, Specs and Mileage:

The sub-4m Ignis micro-SUV will be powered by the four-valves-per-head, inline, four-cylinder, DOHC petrol power unit which has a displacement of 1197 cc. The VVT, K-series petrol engine, also found under the engine bay of Swift, is capable of pushing out a maximum power output of 84 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis is set to come with the 1.3 diesel engine as well with 75 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm peak torque at as low as 2,000 rpm. Drive will be sent to the front-wheels via five-speed manual transmission as standard while a five-speed AMT, similar to Dzire automatic, will be offered in the top-end diesel models as confirmed by our sources. Considering the weight and length of the car and same engines as the Baleno, expect petrol to deliver above 22 km/l and diesel to deliver above 27 km/l easily.

4. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Dimensions:

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will have 3,700 mm of length, 1,595 mm of height and 1,660 mm of width and it will surely take customers by surprise and parts are being readied for Ignis as we told you in a recent post. Maruti Suzuki Ignis is set to create a new category for itself and should take customers by storm as an entry-level SUV or Micro SUV with the practicality of a hatchback by rivaling against the Mahindra KUV100. It is going to have an ample ground clearance of 180 mm while the kerb weight will be around 900 kg. The bootspace capacity is at 258 litres and can be expanded to 415 litres.

5. Maruti Suzuki Ignis India Price
As always Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be completely manufactured in India with more than 95% localization of parts and will have a competitive price tag. We think the pricing should start from Rs. 5.6 Lakh and end at a very competitive Rs. 7.2 Lakh because other products in the same category need not have to face cannibalisation. Maruti’s huge ambitions of entering a new SUV market is finally coming true. Ignis will kick things up for the country’s largest car maker in this segment and the rest will be followed with a premium higher-level SUV. S-Cross is already here to help but it is more of a crossover with soft-roader SUV credentials besides the popular Vitara Brezza.

6. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior

The interior will look identical to the existing models in Maruti’s stable as the Ignis shares most of its components with the Baleno and Swift. It will come equipped with a premium dual-tone dashboard layout, an integrated touchscreen and contrast highlights on several elements. The top-of-the-range model is likely to feature SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. Other important stuff may include an audio system with AUX-in, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The Ignis could be made available with host of customization options as well. The five-seat configuration means the micro-SUV should provide good enough leg and headroom up front and rear. The adjustable rear seats will give provision to additional 165 mm legroom. The range of safety features the Ignis could be sold with are standard dual front airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD alongside ESP and automatic headlights as option.

7. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Exterior The exterior features that could be available in the Ignis mini SUV are chrome-lined grille, blacked-out A and B pillars, projector headlights, turn indicators on ORVMs, clam-shell bonnet, 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, bumpers with black inserts, rear mounted spoiler, windscreen wiper and flared rear arches, three-slats above rear wheel arch, etc. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis does have an appealing and cutesy exterior despite being quite boxy. It will be targetting more young buyers with loads of equipment and a well-crafted styling.

8. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Features
Chrome-lined large grille with infused LED headlights, blacked out A and B pillars, flared wheel arches, dual-tone interior theme, touchscreen infotainment system and much more. The Harman Kardon audio system will offer smartphone integration. It will also support Apple CarPlay, offering Apple iPhone users various functions like making and taking calls, music playback and messaging, to be controlled through the car’s display. The system will also be equipped with a voice-recognition function and navigation.

9. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Safety The micro-SUV has secured a three-star rating for entry-level standard safety equipment variant and five stars for the variant with the optional safety pack. Both models featured in the latest round of Euro NCAP had driver and passenger airbags alongside side head, chest and pelvis airbags up front.

10. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Key Rivals Maruti Suzuki Ignis will fight against the likes of Renault Kwid, upcoming Tata Tiago Aktiv and Datsun GO-Cross, and Mahindra KUV100.

The bookings of the all-new ‪#‎VitaraBrezza‬ are now open at Pratham Motors.

Maruti is going to launch the all-new Vitara Brezza in Bangalore on 21st Mar’16. Now, the name Vitara isn’t new to us. The Grand Vitara has been sold for many years, before being put to sleep two years back. This time though, the Vitara badge sits on the boot of a much smaller SUV. The Vitara Brezza is exactly 3995mm long. Getting to the numbers, the Brezza will be available only with a diesel engine for now – the tried and tested 1.3-litre block. That engine, with assistance from a variable geometry turbo, churns out 88bhp and 200Nm. It’s mated to a five-speed manual transmission. No AMT on offer, either. The fuel efficiency will be approximately 24.3kpl. The top end ZDi+ variant gets dual tone colour scheme, auto headlamps and wipers, airbags and ABS, Apple Carplay music system with steering controls and Bluetooth, keyless entry. Unlike most other Marutis, the Brezza’s design is quite refreshing, and it does have presence. It doesn’t get a boot mounted spare to give it an SUV look, but even without that, it looks much like a compact SUV. Now, to the important bit, the price. The Brezza starts at Rs 7.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore) and goes up to Rs 9.95 lakh for the ZDi+ variant. The Brezza will be sold to all Pratham Motors Sales outlet and not Nexa.

The Premium Crossover – The Road will never be the same as the most awaited car of the Year is on its way. The Premium crossover is ready to hit the roads. The spacious and luxurious car is powered with an unbeatable engine. Hold your breath and drive your dream like never before!

Maruti Suzuki will debut the S-Cross in the market in a few weeks from now.

Here’s a list of 5 things that you should know about the S-Cross.

1. The S-Cross will not wear Maruti Suzuki or Suzuki’s badge like others cars. Instead, it will just have the model name written.

2. The S-Cross is based on the SX4 hatchback that never came to India. However, in some European markets, the hatchback was replaced by the crossover. That said, India will only get the crossover but with some design and mechanical changes.

3. Unlike the global model’s 2-piece horizontal slat grille, the Indian version will have three slats. Also, it will have increased ground clearance than the European model.

4. Since the S-Cross will share its cabin with the Swift, expect the same all-black interiors with silver inserts.

5. The Indian version of the crossover is likely to be powered by a different set of engines when compared to its European counterpart. While the European version is available with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel motors, the Indian version might get two diesel engines – 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre multijet – both of which have been sourced from Fiat.

Although in the latest spy shots, one can see all the features that have been rumored so far, such as the two-slate chrome grille and the skid plate around the body, the prototype seems to have missed out the projector headlights.

The likely features of S-Cross include dual zone climate control feature, of the model, which is a first in its segment, touch screen Smart Play infotainment system, rear AC vents, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD.

Under the hood, Maruti S-Cross is expected to get 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines in its engine line-up. The 1.6-litre diesel engine will have the capacity to churn out a power of 118bhp with a peak torque of 32kgm and the transmission is likely to come from a six-speed manual gearbox.

Celerio Auto Gear Shift Technology

Maruti Suzuki introduced Celerio with the all new revolutionary Auto Gear Shift transmission. Given the importance Suzuki attaches to Indian market, the new technology premiered in India while it may follow in other global markets.

Auto Gear Shift is Suzuki’s newly developed automated manual transmission (AMT), equipped with the Intelligent Shift Control Actuator, an electric-hydraulic actuator that automatically performs clutch and shift operations. Auto Gear Shift combines the actuator and controller and directly mounts them in the transmission in order to unify the working components.

This permits synchronized control over the clutch, shifting, and engine for smoother gear changes. As well as bringing together the advantages of both manual and automatic transmissions, shifting time is shortened compared to conventional ATs.

Salient Features

a) Excellent fuel efficiency:As the basic structure is manual transmission, its fuel efficiency is equivalent to manual transmission. Also, optimal gearshift operation controlled by the computer helps improve fuel efficiency.

b) Easy driving:Because clutch pedal and gearshift operations by the driver are not necessary, and thanks to the creep function at the start, Auto Gear Shift makes driving easy even when parking and during traffic congestion.

c) Fun driving:; Manual mode can be selected to enjoy driving, enabling the driver to shift gears at will, just like manual transmission.Delivers fun driving from the synergistic effect with direct drive feeling of a manual transmission.

Knowing Auto Gear Shift

The gear box is neatly labeled where “N” stands for Neutral, “D” is for Drive, “R” denotes Reverse, “M” means Manual mode. In Manual mode, there are options of “+” to up-shift gears and “-” which is used to downshift the gears.

Switching on
Ensure car is in neutral. Brake pedal is pressed. Crank on the engine (if the car is not in Neutral and brake pedal is not pressed, the car will not start. This is to ensure safety)

Drive Mode
The user presses the brake pedal and puts the gear lever in Drive ‘D’ position. The car sets in motion by virtue of Creep function with the release of brake.
The speed of car can be changed by pressing or releasing the accelerator pedal as per requirement.

In Drive “D” mode the most appropriate gear is automatically selected by the Auto Gear Shift system, based on the operation of the accelerator pedal and vehicle speed. With the increase in speed, the car moves up to a higher gear, highest being the 5th gear.

Optimum vehicle performance and fuel economy is obtained by smoothly/ lightly pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal. Aggressive pressing of the accelerator pedal will result in gear shifting at higher engine RPM which may adversely impact the fuel economy.

Manual Mode
To add to the flexibility, this Auto Gear Shift transmission also offers a Manual mode. For shifting to Manual mode, one has to simply shift the gear lever to “M” position.

Gear shifting is achieved by pushing the lever to the “+”and “-”for up shifting and downshifting respectively. Even while driving, the drive mode can be shuffled between “D” and “M” modes.

Stopping the car
Pressing the brake reduces the speed of the car. The gears shift down automatically. When the vehicle comes to a complete halt, press the brake pedal and shift the lever to “N”, Neutral.

It is crucial to check position of gear in the display on the instrument cluster to ensure it is in Neutral. Switch off engine and engage parking.
